Alto Adige Kalterersee
Grape variety: Vernatsch (Schiava) with 5% Teroldego/Lagrein
Growing area: historic site overlooking Lake Caldaro; planted with 80-year-old vines in pergola training system. South-east orientation.
Soil: heat-storing, slightly loamy calcareous gravel soils with a low sand content. Dolomite prevails, a sedimentary rock with calcium – magnesium compounds. Ventilated, favorable hillside location.
Training system: Pergola
Age of the vines: 80-90 years
Vinification: fermentation for about 2 weeks in wooden vats. After alcoholic fermentation, racking into large wooden barrels. Then malolactic fermentation and aging in barrel until early summer.
