“When Ignaz Niedrist, a ‘vine whisperer’ from an old Girlan winegrowing family, founded the winery 35 years ago together with his wife Elisabeth, a cellar that had been in the family for 170 years – and has since been lovingly restored – was part of the basic equipment. Our Kalterersee 2023 has been featured twice among the best wines in the American Vine Pair guide. First, it was included in “The 50 Best Wines of 2025,” where it even came in second place (https://vinepair.com/articles/best-wines-2025/), and then in the article “30 Wines to Drink in 2026” (best-red-wines-2026). We are delighted that our Schiava is so popular internationally. A small sensation for this Alto Adige grape variety!
